To celebrate 60 years of singing together, the Monash University Choral Society (MonUCS) presents Antonín Dvořák‘s ‘Stabat Mater’, a hauntingly beautiful ten-movement oratorio. Composed in mourning the death of his young daughter, Dvořák tells a universal tale of grief, loss and sorrow in mourning a loved one from the perspective of Mary grieving her crucified son. ‘Stabat Mater’ reflects the innate humanity in loss and grief, traversing the emotional turmoil in its movements. It is at once melancholy, bleak, hopeful and joyous.

To bring this work to life, ‘Stabat Mater’ will be conducted by Lachlan McDonald, accompanied by pianist Zachary Hamilton-Russell and feature soloists. We’ve been working very hard with the two of them across this semester to put together this wonderful piece, and we hope you enjoy it!
